The Creative Practice

RETURN • RECONNECT • RENEW

You’ve arrived at The Creative Practice, the heart of Hejmo.

Perhaps something in you is asking for a different pace. A clearer sense of direction. A creative life that feels like it has room again—less rushed, more your own. A form of companionship, with yourself and your work, that doesn’t ask for performance or constant output.

What Is The Creative Practice?

The Creative Practice is not a self-help program, a personal-growth curriculum, or a coaching container.

It's a place to return. Not to improve yourself, but to stay close to what matters as your life continues to unfurl. It’s a crafted practice space shaped around shared writing, open prompts, and two points of contact each month, offered entirely in writing and taken up in your own time.

Think of it as a small lantern you carry alongside your life: a way of returning to your own insight, imagination, and sense of direction, month after month, without pressure to keep up or produce.

I created The Creative Practice after many years of guiding reflective spaces, workshops, and creative programs for people around the world. Over time, I noticed a shift—both in myself and in others. As we change, what the inner life asks for also changes.

Less intensity, more listening. Fewer strategies, more tending.

The Creative Practice grew from that recognition. It offers a way of working that is simpler and more grounded. The focus is not development, but presence.

Why This Work Matters Now

At certain points in life, familiar ways of working stop fitting. The habits that once carried us no longer do. What used to energize begins to feel thin or misaligned.

For many people who create—on the page, in the studio, or through work shaped by ideas and meaning—this shift arrives quietly. The work still matters, but the way of approaching it wants to change.

People who find their way here often carry questions like these:

  • What feels true for me now?

  • What gives me energy—and what drains it?

  • What wants to be made, and what wants to be released?

  • What can be simplified?

  • Am I moving from habit, or from aliveness?

These are not questions answered by effort or reinvention. They’re questions lived with over time, through reflection and discernment.

The Creative Practice offers a way to stay with them—by making room to listen, notice, and let clarity return in its own time.

How This Place Supports You

Most people who arrive here are not stuck or broken. They’re simply aware that something in their creative or inner life wants to be met differently.

Some feel ready to return to creating but don’t know where to begin. Others feel pulled in many directions, unsure which ideas deserve their care. Many sense that their inner life has become crowded, and that they want a more lucid way of being with their work—without noise, comparison, or pressure.

The Creative Practice exists for this moment.

Not to fix you.
Not to push you.
Not to turn you into someone else.

But to offer a reliable place you can return to—where reflection feels possible again, and where your creative life can gather itself naturally, guided by what you already know.

The Rhythm of the Practice

The Creative Practice is designed to be easy to enter and easy to live with. There are no live sessions and nothing that requires real-time participation.

Each month includes two simple points of contact, both offered in writing and accessible whenever it suits you.

At the beginning of the month, a new Creative Companion appears in the private member space, along with the opening reflection and prompt. You may read, write, return later, or simply take it in.

Mid-month, a second written post appears with a guest practice—a short contribution from that month’s guest. You can explore it immediately or save it for later.

You’re welcome to write a few lines, respond to someone else, or simply read along. Some months you may engage deeply. Other months more lightly. The structure is intentionally minimal so it can fit into your life as it is.

Monthly Guest Voices

Each month, a guest contributes a way of working they trust—drawn from fields such as writing, art, therapy, poetry, movement, or contemplative practice. Guests are invited in conversation with the month’s theme, so their presence naturally deepens what’s already being explored.

In each Creative Companion, you’ll find a short written conversation with the guest, along with a simple practice or exercise drawn from their own work—something you can try in your own time, adapt as you wish, and return to later if it continues to feel relevant.

These offerings are intentionally modest in scale: a reflection, an exercise, a way of noticing. They’re not events to attend or content to keep up with, but something you can spend time with as the month unfolds.

Over time, these voices form a loose constellation—different disciplines, different lives, each offering another way of seeing your own.

When You Want to Go Deeper

A few times a year, I offer small writing groups or creative workshops focused on particular themes. These run separately from The Creative Practice and are optional.

Members are always the first to hear about them and may reserve a place before the public, often at a reduced rate. Think of them as deeper, time-bound containers you can step into when a particular question calls for closer attention.

The Monthly Creative Companion

At the beginning of each month, one Creative Companion appears inside the member space for you to open when the time feels right.

Each Companion includes open journaling space following the written material. You can print the pages or write digitally using apps such as GoodNotes or Notability. You’re free to move through it at your own pace, return to what stays with you, or set it aside and come back later.

You may download the Companion at any point during the month and keep it. When the month ends, it steps aside and a new one appears. Nothing accumulates. The structure stays clear and uncluttered.

A Creative Companion isn’t meant to be worked through or finished. It’s something you spend time with—one offering each month, without pressure.

Inside the Current Companion

ARRIVAL

This month's Creative Companion centers on noticing where you are, without rushing ahead or trying to turn the moment into something else.

Inside, you’ll find a short reflective essay, the current writing prompt, and a set of questions designed to accompany a printable finger labyrinth. The labyrinth offers a tactile way to slow your pace and enter the work through your hands as well as your thoughts.

You’ll also find a written conversation with the guest contributor—a therapist whose work centers on somatic awareness—along with one practice drawn from her approach. Four Body Practice Cards selected for this theme are included, along with a single Talisman Card you can keep nearby as a point of reference.

You’re free to move through the material gradually, return to what stays with you, or leave parts untouched until another moment calls.

Before You Join

The Creative Practice is not a self-help program, a productivity space, or a talk-heavy community. What it offers instead is a simple, ongoing way to remain close to your own insight and direction.

If you’re looking for constant interaction, fast momentum, a self-improvement environment, or specific outcomes, this may not be a fit.

But if you’re drawn to a quieter, more discerning way of moving through your work, your art, or your inner life, The Creative Practice may feel familiar.

You’re invited to join if it feels like a definite yes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is "The Creative Practice"?

The Creative Practice is an ongoing reflective and creative subscription—not a self-help program or a busy online community. It offers a simple monthly rhythm to help you stay close to your own insight, creativity, and inner orientation.

Each month includes one downloadable Creative Companion and two shared written touchpoints, both calm and asynchronous, experienced entirely in your own time.

The Creative Practice is a place to gather. The monthly Creative Companions—each shaped around a central inquiry—are what we gather around.

Who is this space for?

The Creative Practice often draws people in a more seasoned phase of life—those who have lived enough to want depth, clarity, and a creative life that feels meaningful again. It’s not about age. It’s about sensing when this pace and kind of inquiry fit where you are.

Is this only for women?

All genders are welcome. If the tone and spirit of The Creative Practice speak to you, you belong here.

How does the monthly opening practice work?

On the first day of each month, a new written post appears in the private space. It begins with a simple check-in and the month’s prompt. You can read or respond in your own time. There are no live calls and no obligation to share. It’s a moment of arrival—not a class and not a thread to keep up with.

How does the mid-month practice work?

Mid-month, a second written post appears with the guest practice. You’ll receive a simple offering from that month’s guest—something you can explore whenever you like. Occasionally, the guest may add a reflection or respond to a question, but there are no events and no expectations.

How much is this subscription?

Membership is $22 per month, or $220 per year. The annual plan works out to just over $18 per month.

Can I read testimonials from past members of your reflective spaces?

Yes. Since 2013, I’ve guided many reflective communities and programs. You can read a selection of testimonials here. Their words offer the clearest sense of what this kind of work feels like from the inside.

Is this a writing craft group? Will my writing be critiqued?

The prompts are reflective rather than craft-based. This is not a critique group or workshop. Your writing can remain entirely private, or you may share a short note beneath the prompt if you wish.

Is this a community or a digital subscription?

Not in the usual sense. The Creative Practice is primarily a digital subscription with two shared written moments each month inside our private online space—one at the beginning and one mid-month. There is no social feed, no ongoing chat, and nothing to track. The structure is intentionally simple.

What do I receive each month?

At the beginning of each month, a new Creative Companion appears inside the member space. It may take the form of a guided journal, a creative workbook, reflective cards, or a seasonal practice. You can download it at any point during the month. Once saved, it’s yours to keep.

Are the materials printable? Can I use them digitally?

Yes. Each Creative Companion is designed to work well both on paper and on screen. You can print the pages or write digitally using apps such as GoodNotes or Notability.

How do the monthly guests work?

Each month, a guest contributor shares a simple practice drawn from their own work. This appears in the Creative Companion and is revisited mid-month in the shared space. These contributions are fully asynchronous, with no live events.

How much time does this require each month?

Very little. You can read the prompt in a minute and write for as little as five. You’re always free to spend more time, but nothing here depends on volume or urgency.

I’m new to journaling or reflective practice. Is this still for me?

Yes. The Creative Practice is designed to meet you where you are. The prompts and practices are open, flexible, and accessible for both newcomers and long-time journalers.

What if I’m going through a difficult or transitional time?

You’re welcome here. Many people arrive during periods of change. This is not a space for processing crises publicly, and it is not a substitute for therapy or professional care. What it offers instead is something quieter: thoughtful questions, a monthly pause, and a calm place to return to as life unfolds.

Will you offer coaching?

Coaching is not part of The Creative Practice. From time to time, I offer separate small groups or workshops. Members are the first to hear about these and may receive preferred access or pricing.

What if I already have too many digital products?

The Creative Practice is intentionally light. You receive one meaningful Companion per month—not a library to accumulate and not a stream to follow. Nothing expires once downloaded, and nothing asks to be completed.

Can I use the materials with my clients?

Not without a separate license. The monthly materials are for personal use only. If you’d like to use Hejmo resources with clients or within your own programs, please contact me about licensing.

Will I have access to past materials?

You’ll have permanent access to everything you download. New members begin receiving Companions from the month they join onward. Previous months are not automatically included, though some editions may be offered later in the Hejmo shop, sometimes at a reduced rate for members.

Can I gift a subscription?

Yes. The Creative Practice can be a generous gift for someone who values reflection, creativity, and quieter forms of support. Feel free to contact me if you’d like to arrange this.

How do I access each month’s download?

On the first of each month, a new Creative Companion appears inside the member space. You can download it at any time during that month. I send one reminder before it steps aside for the next Companion.

What if I forget to download a Companion?

Once a Creative Companion retires at the end of the month, it’s no longer available. I send one reminder beforehand so you have time to download anything you want to keep.

How do I unsubscribe?

You can cancel anytime through your account settings, without emailing us. When your current billing period ends, you’ll stop receiving new Companions and posts, but everything you’ve downloaded remains yours.

Will the price change in the future?

The price may increase. The current rate is available to founding members. As long as you remain continuously subscribed, your rate will not change.

Do you offer refunds?

Subscriptions can be canceled at any time, but payments already made are nonrefundable. Annual subscribers retain access for the full year paid.

What if I fall behind or skip a month?

Nothing accumulates, and nothing expires once downloaded. You can skip a month, return later, or simply read without writing. The Creative Practice is meant to support your life, not compete with it.
